The New York Times describes Michele Capalbo as having “a genuine voice, from a lower register she actually uses to high floating pianissimos”. A widely renowned interpreter of Verdi and Puccini her dramatic talents and tremendous skill in the bel canto and verismo traditions have earned this remarkable soprano worldwide praise including the Opera News who proclaimed her “a world-class Aida” and “A statuesque beauty with strong stage presence”, someone who “may well be the verismo soprano we’ve been waiting for”. Michele’s international credits include Verdi’s Aida with the San Francisco Opera, Teatro Municipal Santiago, Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse and the Canadian Opera Company. Garnering rave reviews for Elisabetta (DON CARLO), OTELLO’s Desdemona, and Amelia (UN BALLO IN MASCHERA), Michele also earned acclaim as Lady Macbeth (MACBETH), a role she brought to life with Opera Ireland and L'Opéra de Montréal. She has appeared as Leonora with Teatro Real Madrid and Teatro Municipal Santiago in IL TROVATORE; as well as singing LA FORZA DEL DESTINO’s Leonora in Busseto, Verdi’s birthplace. In the verismo repertoire, Michele’s credits include the title roles of Tosca with New York City and Seattle Operas, Cio-Cio-San (MADAMA BUTTERFLY) with Houston Grand Opera; as well as Manon Lescaut with Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Teatro Regio di Parma. No stranger to the symphonic stage Michele’s recent worldwide concerts have included Verdi’s REQUIEM with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra; Mahler’s 8th Symphony in Bergen, Norway; Poulenc’s STABAT MATER in Florence, Italy; and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
